'Education is about education of the whole person' Humans have asked questions about the meaning, value and purpose of life since the beginning of time. Religious and Moral education enables young people to explore these questions both with reference to their own lives and with reference to others in the community. Religious and moral education also has a key role to play in helping young people come to terms with the increasingly complex nature of our society - multicultural and with different religious communities contained within it Developing skills of understanding, tolerance and empathy will lead to the growth of sensitive young adults equipped to participate in a world of divergent beliefs and values. Units and courses in philosophy will develop pupils' abilities to analyse their own and others' opinions and beliefs. It will also encourage and develop critical thinking skills and promote investigative and evaluative skills. All this will be useful in the world of work and in developing successful relationships with others.
