One of the main thrusts of equal opportunities is the promotion of positive relationships within the school - that is pupil to pupil, teacher to pupil and so on. A sensitive issue in this respect is bullying which can exist where positive relationships between pupils have broken down. We have an Anti-Bullying Committee within the school who formulated a Whole School Anti-Bullying Policy in consultation with staff, parents and pupils.

Below are the main points of our Anti-Bullying Code and Procedures:-

  • No form of bullying will be tolerated in Auchinleck Academy
  • Reports of bullying will always be taken seriously by school staff and acted upon
  • All reports of bullying will be treated in confidence
  • Pupils who persist in bullying despite counselling and support, will be excluded from school

To support pupils, the following strategies have been put in place by the Committee:-

  • Bullying is regularly discussed as part of the PSE programme in S1-S4
  • A support group exists whereby two S6 pupils work with S1 Register Classes to listen to any concerns related to bullying which can then be referred to a member of staff
  • A safe area is offered to pupils who are concerned about bullying
  • Bullyboxes exist within designated areas of the school so that pupils can report bullying if they wish without referring to a member of staff.

Advice to Parents

There may be times when your child feels that they are being bullied. It is most important that parents/guardians who are concerned about possible bullying should contact the school at the earliest opportunity to discuss the problem. This discussion will include the action which will be taken and how your child can be supported. Bullying is a problem which cannot be stopped by pupils, parents/guardians or teachers acting alone and parents/guardians should therefore not hesitate to seek the advice and support of the school, if the need arises.
